SWOT Analysis
Strengths
I have a few strengths related to the equipment I currently own which will help me progress in my career in the media world. At the moment I have access to the Adobe Creative Cloud and rendering software which both give me a huge advantage in terms of my capability using the software and also allowing me to create products for a portfolio using industry standard software already. This is a large strength and allows me to progress in areas of film using Premiere or After Effects and also gives me an advantage in other areas such as print publication using Illustrator or Indesign. To use this software I have an above average PC which will render footage quickly and stay running competently with multiple programs open at once.
For filmmaking I have two advantages in that I live very close to Cambridge (30-minute drive) and that I have a large amount of storage space which will let me gather equipment and also store objects like storyboards or pre-production documentation when needed. Being close to Cambridge allows me to access the many resources that are in the town centre and also means that I could work in one of the many studios that are open around Cambridge or in the science park such as Jagex or Frontier developments.
Weaknesses
I have a few weaknesses when applying for jobs or trying to get into the media industry at the moment which includes a lack of portfolio and freelance work. This means that I do not have much of a showreel to take to film or game studios and pitch myself yet. This can be improved but will take a long time. I also have some poor equipment for a video camera and drawing tablet which may hold back my skills to make high-quality footage or prints.
Opportunities
I have multiple opportunities for travel as I am close to Cambridge which means I can travel there regularly if I need access to certain facilities or wish to work close to my current town as there are many job opportunities in the city. Furthering this I have bus access from a student card which allows me to ride any bus and get to many places around the city for free if I need to. I am also working on getting a driving license and already have my provisional so this gives me more access to travel opportunities as well.
Except from the travel opportunities I am currently working two jobs which are providing me with around £600 of disposable income per month which gives me a great chance to buy the equipment I need to further my career.
Threats
There are two main threats for me which are the ever evolving tech markets and also the changes which are coming from the Brexit referendum. As my computer is a few years old it will continually decline in power and will not keep up with market trends if it is not updated with new parts frequently which is a major threat as it means my income will be used on upgrading my computer instead of purchasing new technology which I need to further parts of my career.
The Brexit issue is not something that has had a major impact yet but will in the near future which has already been displayed by Adobe raising the price of the creative cloud which makes it much less affordable than before. This result means I may not be able to keep the advantage I currently have as I will not be able to afford the cloud for long.

How are you going to make the best use of your resources
My driving licence can be used very well as it is a means for transportation that allows me to travel at any time of day and allows me to go much further than I can using public transport such as buses. It means i’ll also be able to travel further for a job or interviews which could lead to higher paying jobs or ones in a better position.
University will be very useful for me as although it gives me nothing instantly it will mean I can make many contacts and friends through the classes I take which will be interested in the same fields. This may lead to group projects or will at least give me insight into different techniques or ways people do things. It will also allow me to build a portfolio over the time I attend university.
Having a good PC and the Creative Cloud will allow me to access industry standard software and understand how to use them to a high technical quality.
How are you going to find new resources
I’ll find new resources using contacts made in university and through building a portfolio but will also use the web and sites like raindance or other media sites to gain new resources. I could also search through many film or graphic stores to get new resources.
